American Car Manufacturers Are Either Blind, Stupid, Or Too Stubborn To Change!

They remind me of the big dumb jock from high school…he was good for something at one point in time…but now that a few years have passed…what good is he?

Recently Edmunds.com published a story about the top 10 most efficient 4-door cars available. They ranked the cars based on EPA fuel economy numbers. And would you guess that not one car from an American manufacturer made the list!

With gas prices on the never-ending rise…it’s clear that foreign automakers have their finger on the pulse of the car buying world.

Do American car companies just not care about what consumers want?

We do know that there are domestic hybrids out there…such as: the Ford Escape, Saturn Vue, and Chevy Silverado. But these are not cars at all! They are SUV’s and Trucks. It seems that American car makers have decided to take aim at areas outside the hybrid car market.

So the Japanese have such a stranglehold on the hybrid car market, and the big American manufacturers won’t even give it a try. Actually Saturn does have Aura and that’s about it!! But now there is hope on the horizon…

The Chevy Malibu Hybrid is coming out late this year. Horary for all you Bow Tie fans out there. But wait….just how good is the Malibu Hybrid…well according to the EPA; 27 MPG is the average you can expect to get out of this car. That is absolutely hilarious….my Nissan Sentra which is 8 years old, tops that number by 3 MPG and I don’t even practice gas saving driving.

But what about Ford all the Blue Oval fans out there shout? Nope…sorry…Ford doesn’t make a hybrid car. But the Escape hybrid SUV gets 32 MPG which is still better than the Malibu hybrid.

So 9 out of the 10 most fuel efficient sedans come from Japanese auto makers. The tenth comes from Kia. Kia……a company that is tiny compared to the big American Automakers. The future does not look good for domestic vehicles.

Of course the reigning champions are still there…the Civic hybrid, the Prius hybrid, and the Camry hybrid are all on the list. The interesting thing is that 6 of the 10 most fuel efficient 4 door cars are not hybrids at all. They are small gasoline powered cars such as the Corolla

How Will the Big Three American Car Manufacturers’ Financial Trouble Affect Used Car Prices?

One of the biggest stories in financial news today is the trouble being experienced by our American car companies. GM, Ford, and Chrysler are all at all time lows as far as stock prices go and the fear had by many is can the big three survive this crisis?

Answers to this question are up for discussion and only time will tell how the situation is going to pan out. One topic related to the hard times of the big three is the present and future of used car prices of vehicles from these manufacturers.

When it comes to buying a used vehicle of any vintage having the support of the manufacturer can be a major bonus so what is one to do if any of these companies bite the big one? Also will it affect the availability of parts and other services?

The answers can not always be clear, but in my opinion those who are worried about whether they made the right choice of buying a used vehicle from the big three can rest easy. Parts availability from car companies current and non-existing can depend on the popularity of the model in question. I wouldn’t worry about all of a sudden not being to find an LS1 engine as re-manufacturers and third party companies are always there to keep the makes and models alive. Currently you can still buy parts easily for a wide variety of vehicles no longer in production and even from makes that have not even existed for years so i would be quick to think that any vehicle currently on the market would be in any type of jeopardy.

The Big Three could be in store for some major re-adjustments and we will all just have to wait and see how this situation pans out but as far as prices of used cars and parts from the big three I personally do not see any reason why the vehicles would see any spike or fall in pricing that is directly related to the finances of the manufacturer.

American Car Companies Have Been Lying To Us

The next time you are sitting back watching a little television, I want you to pay attention to all of the car commercials. I’m talking about the ones that have the American flag waving in the background with all of its glory. And then theirs my favorite commercial – I’m talking about the one that makes you feel as if you are not a real American if you’re not Ford tough. Well if you are one of the millions of Americans who has your Ford proudly sitting outside in the driveway you may want to reconsider after reading this.

I don’t want to mislead you so allow me to explain. I like many Americans was under the impression that Ford was an American made car. Well that may be true unless you are driving a Ford Fusion. The Ford Fusion is built in a factory in Hermosillo, Mexico.

If you are a big fan of the Ford Motor Company, I do not want you to think that I am just picking on Ford, because there are plenty of other guilty parties. For example, Chrysler is another one that hasn’t been exactly forth coming with the facts. Only 35 percent of the parts used to build their PT Cruiser comes from the U.S. the rest of the PT Cruiser is built in Mexico. The headquarters of DaimlerChrysler is located in Germany.

Did you know that General Motors owns part of Suzuki as well as a Korean automaker known as Daewoo. The Chevrolet Aveo is imported from South Korea, and only 4 percent of its parts come from the U.S.

As I was sitting here writing this article a Ford commercial came on the television with the theme song “Born in the U.S.A.” playing in the background. I’m not against driving a foreign car, all that I am saying is I want to be told the truth. Further research on this matter revealed that by law, every new vehicle sold in the U.S. has to have a window sticker that states what percent of its parts are domestically produced. I’m not saying that – that’s not true. I am however saying that I do not recall ever seeing this information located on the window sticker.

BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, and Toyota all build cars in the U.S. combined, they produce more than a third as many vehicles in the U.S., they produce more than a third as many vehicles in the U.S. as do the Big Three. However many of the parts for those vehicles still come from overseas.

Here is a list that is guaranteed to make you say, “WOW”.

American cars that are built in Mexico

Buick Rendevous
Cadillac Escalade ESV & EXT
Chevrolet Avalanhe
Chevrolet HHR
Chevrolet Silverado
Chevrolet Suburban
Chrysler PT Cruiser
Dodge Ram
Ford F-Series
Ford Fusion
GMC Yukon
Lincoln MKZ
Mercury Milan.

I could go on, however I feel that my point should be solidified by now. I believe that ANY consumer has the right to know exactly what it is that he or she is purchasing. I understand that one could argue that you do not go to the grocery store and purchase a steak and ask the butcher where did the cow come from. I am however saying that if you are going to shove this patriotic sales pitch at us left and right that at the very least you should be honest about the entire thing.

Specialist Brokers Can Still Offer Affordable American Car Insurance Deals

Since automobiles have become a big part of everyday life for most people living in the 21st century, the range of different types of vehicle that are driven on the roads of Britain has expanded. But while foreign makes account for the majority of vehicles driving in the towns and cities or through the countryside of the UK, a guaranteed head-turner is the sight of a beautifully preserved American classic car which usually stands out amongst the usual collection of Citroens, Mazdas, Toyotas and Audis.

While commuting, shopping and the school run might be made a whole lot more memorable in an American car, insurance for these big-engined, chrome encrusted icons of the US motor industry is notoriously expensive and often more than the average UK car owner can justify for such everyday usage. American car insurance is, however, becoming more affordable as the number of opportunites to purchase cheap cover for a wide range of vehicles increases, so for anyone thinking of buying a modern American car, insurers are fairly easy to find.

The crunch is getting the right policy to ensure your car is properly covered, and for some of the classic American cars, this may not be quite so easy to organise on the cheap. Car insurance is often better obtained from specialist brokers when the vehicle is of a specialist nature, but even that need not come at an extortionate price if you’re prepared to hunt around and tailor a policy to fit your specific requirements.

The cost of insurance for a classic American car is going to be more expensive than cover for a more average, modern model basically because the cost of replacing parts rises with the rarity of the vehicle. Also, being common targets for theft and vandalism, the older American cars are seen as a high risk proposition by virtually any high street or online car insurance company, and the fact that they are, more often than not, fuel hungry, un-green giants of the road is sure to attract higher premiums.

But for those who have embarked on a restoration project or paid a substantial amount of money to simply own an original American classic, car insurance is going to be an important issue and certainly something worth getting exactly right. Such individual cars will have individual requirements, but there are ways to cut insurance costs by finding a broker who can offer discounts for certain things – agreeing annual mileage, joining an owner’s club and enhancing security measures are all ways to reduce the price of an American car insurance premium, and while there seem to be hundreds of insurers competing to offer you the best deal, you might even end up with a few quotes to compare.

American Cars Are Muscling Into the Insurance Market!

In an age when it’s possible to find a tailor-made product for any type of vehicle in the UK, car insurance companies are adding a bit of ‘muscle’ to the fray with some long-awaited competition in the form of low-cost American car cover. Once occupying a small and highly specialised corner of the market, anyone looking for a cheap quote for their imported American vehicle would almost definitely be searching in vain. But now there are a mind-blowing number of niche, high street and direct insurers all targeting the same customers, quotes for American car insurance are sure to offer some highly competitive deals.

While left-hand drive vehicles were once rarely seen driving along Britain’s roads and notoriously expensive to cover, US cars are now being imported by a rapidly increasing band of enthusiasts. With the custom paint-jobs, big, powerful engines and unique styling of a wide variety of 4X4 SUV’s and pick-ups, modern saloons and classic American muscle cars, insurance products need to reflect the multitude of requirements demanded by these specialised vehicles. But while that would seem like a recipe for high car insurance quotes, it is still possible to find some low-cost deals when there are a number of ways to help reduce the price of a premium.

Enhanced security is essential, so alarms and immobilisers are recommended as is overnight garaging, even though that is like stating the obvious to anyone lucky enough to own a classic 1969 Mustang! Setting a higher excess level and agreeing annual mileage will also have a favourable effect on an American car insurance quote and some companies even offer discounts to members of certain recognised owners clubs. And this all seems perfectly reasonable when it’s virtually guaranteed that those who own American cars are more likely to take them out to lavish them with love and attention, or on special occasions like rallies and shows, than to use them to drive to work or do the shopping and the school run.

American Cars Back on Top

For the past few years sales of American cars have been low, owing to the consumers believe that these cars lack style, dependability, and performance. During these years the foreign car makers have taken advantage and pushed their cars into the US market. The sales of foreign cars in the US have increased dramatically and part of this is due to the lack of American car class. Last year, the sales of Chevrolet and Ford outsold Toyota in the US.

But it’s time for the foreign manufacturers to watch out. American cars are back and they are coming back strong. In recent 2010 studies by J.D. Power and Associates American carmakers have earned higher scores than in imported cars in both initial quality and owner satisfaction surveys. The increases were small; but they are enough to show that American cars are becoming even with their foreign competitors.

Consumer Reports has also found similar improvements in the dependability and desirability of American cars. When compared to Toyota, the leading brand for the past few years, American car maker Ford is almost tied overall and has taken the lead in categories like safety, quality and value. While Toyota still has the lead in categories like environmentally friendly/green Consumer Reports found that this category is becoming less important to today’s car buyers. The final scores in the study were Toyota 147 and Ford 144; if it hadn’t been for Toyota’s huge victory in the green category Ford would have taken first place.

The factors that matter the most to consumers when buying a car are safety, quality and value and Ford was at the top in all of these. They placed second in safety (after Volvo), second in quality (after Honda) and first in value; beating Honda and Toyota by a small margin. Ford also claimed third place in the performance and technology/innovation categories.

Ford is continuing to improve its quality by training all of its workers in quality improvement methods as well as using new technology to find quality problems earlier. According to Consumer Reports Ford has “put a lot of focus on building cars that are reliable…and a lot of focus on fuel economy.”

General Motors has had a very bumpy ride the last few years and is slowly coming back from its fall into bankruptcy. They continue to improve on dependability and quality. GM has also done a good job of making cars that appeal to consumer emotionally. In a recent J.D. Powers survey that measured how happy owners are with their new cars GM tied Ford’s average score and exceeded the overall industry’s average score. The president of GM North America credits big cultural changes within the company for the improvements in their vehicles. Today GM expects “even a low-priced Chevy to have the same solid feel you’d expect in a high-end car.”

In 2010 General Motors sales for December were up 16.1% and Fords were up 6.8% compared to Toyota who actually saw a decrease in their sales of 5.5% from the previous year. Both General Motors and Ford sold more cars last year than Toyota; a first for both companies since 2007 (General Motors) and 2006 (Ford). Based on the numbers it seems to be fairly obvious that Ford and General Motors are back in the game and are ready to play. They have used this time of restructuring and rebuilding to commit to a more dependable, higher quality brand, producing cars the American consumers are interested in. It might be time for the foreign automakers to take a step back and regroup; or their sales could be even lower next year.

Is It Unpatriotic to Not Buy American Cars?

Because I didn’t have the chance to answer this question in an interview, I give my opinion now, as it remains the same every time I think of this subject.

Given the fact that Ford has over 30,000 workers who will now lose their jobs while we plan to import cars from China by 2007, it’s fair to say that it is unpatriotic to not buy American cars because that puts the American middle class in danger.

Since even the President himself refuses to help GM and Ford it’s time to realize that the key is in the American consumer , as the consequences (too many unemployed people, over 450,000 retirees de-funded, bigger taxes for all of us to compensate the failure of American companies) affects him directly.

Of course there are many ”so called” reasons to not buy American cars and I will prove that, indeed, none of them is valid. Let’s start with the quality: it’s a fact that the average reliability of GM and Ford cars is greater than that of all Japanese models combined and that Lincoln, Buick and Cadillac made the top five for 2005 regarding the dependability.(J.D. Power & Associates Long-term Dependability Survey).

The inefficiency of SUVs: of course SUVs consume a lot of fuel, but these cars are made because people requested it. Remember supply and demand? So how can anyone say that American companies don’t satisfy the consumers, as the request for SUVs has doubled in the last 15 years? And, lets remind that Japanese companies have been struggling to outgrow Ford and GM by creating bigger ”monsters”which consume much more.

Let’s have faith in the foreign car companies to do what American companies can also do, and probably better. Afraid that the foreign investments will decrease if we support American companies? Not true because it is their interest to keep American workers.

American companies need to improve. Improve what? Ford and GM have won quality awards, employ more Americans, pay better salaries, are very philanthropic, pay more taxes to the U.S. Treasury and the list can go on.

And the last of the reasons to not buy American cars is the fact that Ford and General Motors have to realize that they need to create cars more suitable for the American’s taste. What? GM sells more cars than any other car company. What does that say? And even though Toyota is coming strong in the international market, in the US one GM is still the leader.

The main problem is the skepticism regarding the truthfulness of the reports about GM or Ford. Foreign cars lovers will believe a report that favors Toyota but when a fact about the quality of GM cars is proven they are not convinced. Facts seem to be irrelevant to them.

Know the Matters and Get the Best Benefits From Automotive Batteries

Automobiles need batteries to get electric energy and for this purpose, automotive batteries were invented. These batteries are rechargeable and small in size, so that they can be set up in automobiles very easily. Especially, it is regarded as an automotive battery. The work of an Starting, Lightning and Ignition is to supply energy to the starter motor for an automobile.

Six galvanic cells are used to make these batteries and they are usually lead acid type. At full charge, an automotive battery provides 12.6 volts. One single Starting, Lightning and Ignition is enough for a small vehicle. But heavy vehicles like highway trucks, tractors etc. that have diesel engines use more than one batteries. These batteries are recyclable, for this reason, they are environment friendly too. And through this process, every year a huge number of batteries are produced. There are usually four types of automotive batteries. They are described below shortly:

• Flooded Cell Type: These types of automotive batteries are inexpensive and working for long time period. But, they require a lot of maintenance and care. But, they can be leaked or spilled at any moment.

• Valve Regulated Lead Acid: They are the alternatives of Flooded Cell type batteries and more expensive than Flooded Cell Type Batteries. These batteries are also known as “sealed” batteries. You cannot repair these batteries and maintain them neither. Hydrometer cannot be used to measure the charge of these batteries and you cannot replenish the electrolyte too. These batteries are maintenance free and are usually used to stay safe from any kind of leakage.

• Shallow Cycle: To start an automobile engine, a large burst of power is needed. And for this purpose, Shallow Cycle batteries are really useful. They can produce a strong power when an engine starts. After that, they are charged by the engine driven charging system. They contain higher specific gravity electrolyte so that the internal resistance can be reduced. Many thin separated plates are used to make these batteries.

• Deep Cycle: These types of batteries are made to provide continuous power for a long period of time. Especially, the small vehicles such as small boats, recreational vehicles, golf cart etc. use these types of batteries. To store energy from wind turbine or photovoltaic array, they are used too.

To use your battery for a long period of time, you have to follow some certain rules. Car batteries that use lead antimony plates may need water regularly. Specialists recommend using distilled water in a particular level. But, nowadays, most of the batteries do not require this watering. Always try to use a charging method that is safe. The most popular charging method is Trickle Charging. Do not over charge your or keep for a long time on charging. This may reduce your product lifetime. And even they can be dangerous. You should also be careful about storage and changing. And such, you can get the best service from these batteries. These processes are also useful for your own safety.

Eastman Industries Ltd. one of the leading auto battery manufacturers in India. Eastman offers a wide range of high quality automotive batteries, Vrla battery manufacturers, inverter and motorcycle batteries of JIS and DIN series.
